Painting “plein air” is my responsive interpretation to a particular scene I find captivating. Being on location presents challenges and excitement for artists - especially the evolving light and shadows on the subject. The studio is a completely different experience, allowing me time to experiment with colour and composition and a larger canvas.
Rather than giving an accurate description of the subject matter before me - a sun-dappled garden with wafting tree shadows or the swirling patterns created by water reflections in a pond - I try to translate what I see into a dynamic painting that reflects my emotional reactions.
